As you’ll recall, it was reported recently that the classic novel Pride and Prejudice was being re-mashed into a novel called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The novel supposedly uses a perfect setup from author Jane Austen, and works the zombie storyline into 85% of the original text.
Well, as studios vie for the rights to make that one into a movie, Elton John‘s Rocket Pictures is skipping that sissy book stuff and jumping right into their own Pride and Prejudice mash-up movie, called Pride and Predator.
Apparently, the movie will take the fancy, well-groomed and proper world of Pride and Prejudice and, instead of zombies, it will showcase the arrival of an alien spaceship which crashes into this completely unfamiliar world. The alien then proceeds to begin slaughtering all of these well-groomed folks. That’s about all that is known so far.
Seriously, I can’t make this stuff up.
Honestly, I have no idea what’s going on, but man, I guess it’s smart to jump right into the movie, effectively taking the steam out of the first-announced zombie fare. So while the zombie idea sounds more appealing and more fun, aliens is what you will probably see first!
Producer David Furnish had this to say:
It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre by literally dropping this alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect.
Pride and Predator will be directed by Will Clark and will begin shooting later this year. It’s written by Clark, Andrew Kemble, and John Pape. Elton John will supervise the music for the film.
