Let me just preface this by saying that I’m not a fan of rumors. In fact, I’m not a big fan of anything that’s not officially confirmed, even if it’s a legit possibility. As I’ve said before, there’s so many rumors and maybes that come around, that it’s tough to ever tell what to believe and what will end up being false when it comes to future movies.
Now, even with as much as I hate rumors, let us just forget all of that for the moment. You see, sometimes there’s these rumors that are just too cool to ignore, even if they end up never happening; the rumors that get your mind’s eye running hard, imagining what something might look like if it were ever made. Today holds a rumor like this, and it involves the one and only Tim Burton, and a little Walt Disney classic called Sleeping Beauty.
Today’s too-much-fun-to-ignore rumor comes from Harry over at AICN, who was told by a friend of his that he has heard that Burton is developing another Disney-based project, much like his soon-coming Alice in Wonderland, from the classic Sleeping Beauty. Only instead of the tale we all know and love, the director wants to actually base it on the villain, Maleficent, and even to the point of actually calling the film Maleficent. The movie would supposedly use the same part live-action, part motion capture/animated styles of Wonderland. It would take place completely from her (its) point of view, and cover all of the unknown back story of the evil being, and how she came to be what she is.
Again, this is all just based on one guy saying that he heard something, but I think I’m not alone in hoping that this dude heard correctly. Maleficent is still to this day one of the baddest-ass villains of all time, with one of the coolest names of all time to boot! To turn the Disney classic into a dark, fantastical fairy tale would be a trip and a half, and I actually think it could be better than what we’ve seen of Wonderland.
Burton has a busy slate, as always, so even if this becomes truth, who knows when it might happen. It’s severely unlikely that he would do back-to-back Disney updates, so look to be waiting for a while if this ever gets a confirmation.
This sounds awesome and if the rumor proves to be true I would totally watch the movie not because it’s directed by Tim Burton but because it would be so cool to see things through the villan’s POV. Besides, Maleficent is my Grandma’s fave. Disney villen, maybe even fave. character. She likes the way Maleficent dresses. (the colors, black and purple) We (my Grandma and myself)could go see it together. I myslef, always like knowing the back story behind some of the hated character’s in series’ because more often than not you find yourself feeling sorry for the “villan” though it usually works best if the character has redeeming qualaties and if they eventually change and become good. Stuff like that happens in books all the time, Damon Salvatore in Vampire Diaries, Severus Snape in Harry Potter, and Ari in Maximum Ride. I didn’t see Alice in Wonderland but do want to because it’s the latest craze. (Hot Topic is stocked with the movie’s merchendise, I would know because I go there for their Twilight and Harry Potter shirts. I really am such a geek!)Also, I heard there was a scene with a moat filled with heads and I ‘kinda’ want to know what that would look like. The only part of the whole idea I don’t like [about the two movies] is that the Disney movies I’ve watched since I was little are being turned into something sinister. I know the books and short stories that they were often times based on are sinister in themselves but I just like a Happily Ever After. Again, I have nothing aginst these/the movie(s)and probably will watch them (if I have the time) and I totally get that the author of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carol, was very creepy himself.

She’s one of the primary villains in Kingdom Hearts, is she not? So she’s got a young fan base as it is just from video game culture fans.
