Disney Quickly Gets ‘Tron’ Sequel Moving Forward

Tron

Disney’s Tron: Legacy is still eight months away from being released, but the studio is already anxious to get a sequel moving forward.

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who wrote the first movie and have worked as writers and executive producers on Lost, have been re-hired to immediately get to work on the follow-up. This is an interesting move, as there is still the chance — despite the major buzz and great trailers we’ve seen — that Tron: Legacy will end up disappointing the masses.

Much like the other news that they’re making Dark Life before the book even comes out, it would seem that Disney is all about taking a few risks these days. This isn’t the worst thing in the world; sometimes in Hollywood risks pay off big time, and you have to tip your cap to rolling the dice now and again. And worst case scenario, they toss the script and move on. Larger disasters have unfolded.

According to the report, the hopes are that Tron can eventually become a trilogy, and this project will attempt to become an arc that leads into the third and final film.

Obviously no details are known about the project because we still have yet to see their first effort. You can bet it will have something to do with a crazy neon virtual world with some crazy virtual people and some sweet bikes.

  1. Had no idea they worked on Legacy. No wonder it looks like it’s worth something. SCORE!

I swear, Bad Robot and PIXAR need to combine forces to make the greatest film ever, with their one unifying force, Michael Giacchino to score it. Good stuff can only come out of that, right?

  2. Regarding Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz as writers of “the first movie,” I don’t see their names credited for Tron. Only see the both of them listed as writers for Tron Legacy (the sequel to Tron). Poor wording? Either way, I’m excited to hear that there will be a 3rd movie coming since the potential for Tron Legacy looks good!
