Lynn Redgrave, renowned actress and performer of the stage and screens big and small, has died at the age of 67. The cause of death was breast cancer, which she admirably battled for many years before finally succumbing to the disease.
Redgrave was always looked at in comparison to her sister, Vanessa Redgrave, but her overall body of work shows that she can easily be talked about as one of the truly incredible and memorable performers of our time.
Aside from a great career performing in many popular Broadway stage productions, she appeared in many acclaimed films and received much praise and numerous awards and nominations for her work. Her two best roles came in 1966’s Georgy Girl and in 1998’s Gods and Monsters, both of which brought her Academy Award nominations and Golden Globe wins.
Aside from that, her 96-credit acting resume spanned many genres and included many TV movies and shows such as House Calls and Chicken Soup. Other films she was in include Kinsey, Peter Pan (2003), and The White Countess, but the thespian was never scared to have fun with her performances, either. She proved this with turns in titles like Woody Allen’s Every Thing You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask, The Wild Thornberrys Movie, and Confessions of a Shopaholic as the “Drunken Lady at Ball.”
The actress also eventually moved into writing, penning multiple plays over the past twenty years. In the last few years of her life and career, Redgrave appeared on a few of today’s popular television series such as Desperate Housewives, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Ugly Betty.
The Redgraves are one of the few considered true royalty in the world of entertainment, but the past year or so has been devastating to say the least. The loss of Lynn Redgrave is the third the family has had to bear since March of 2009 when Lynn’s niece and Vanessa’s daughter Natasha Richardson tragically died after a freak skiing accident. And last moth, the sisters’ brother, Corin Redgrave died at the age of 70.
