Well it looks like Captain America will be fighting an agent from The Matrix!
The rumor has been circulating for awhile now but Marvel Studios confirmed today that Hugo Weaving will be playing Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger. Chris Evans has already been cast as the Star Spangled Avenger with Hayley Atwell taking on the role of Peggy Carter. Joe Johnston is directing the film with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely handling writing duties.
Marvel says the film will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.
Weaving was most recently seen in The Wolfman and heard in Transformers 1 and 2 but I’ll always know him as Agent Smith from The Matrix franchise. I’ve been a big fan of his work so I’m excited about this casting news.
The film comes out here in the U.S. on July 22, 2011.

Also he was awesome as V in V for Vendetta.

Really like Hugo Weaving. People outside of Oz should do themselves a favour and try to catch some of his other work, he’s done more than just play bad guys (or elflords) in blockbusters
