Well here we go again with a brand new story arc in the wonderful ongoing series based off a Pixar movie The Incredibles. If you haven’t been reading the series up to this point don’t get too uptight because you will be able to jump on with this issue. The fact that you can jump onto this story arc with each new arc is definitely a plus, especially since it is meant for the younger audience and it would be harder to expect them to go back and read everything that has happened up to this point. As always Landry Walker‘s writing is very fluid and easy to follow.
Well at this point in the story we find out a couple things. There is a crime committed to set the mood for the book in who The Incredibles will be dealing with this arc. We also see that it is time for Violet to get a job because she needs to be responsible like the adult she says she is. The most exciting story point that I want to see more of is that Dash is now going to begin his training. Mr. Incredible makes it sound mysterious and dangerous, but hopefully we will see for ourselves.
This issue is a lot of set up so it does move slower than a lot of issues. Not that this issue is at all lacking in action, but there is a little less than normal because of the amount of set up for all three small stories. I will be extremely interested to see how Walker ties the three together but so far it seems that readers will have to juggle all three fairly evenly to follow all of the characters which is not always a good thing. That being said I trust Walker because of the quality of work up to this point.
Marcio Takara is now taking on the art for the series [update: he’s the original series artist, so he’s back!] and I am extremely interested to see how he handles the different aspects of each of The Incredibles. I am most interested to see how he handles the actions scenes dealing with their powers. Not much of that is seen in this issue because it is mostly set up and my favorite character Dash is seated almost the whole comic if not the whole comic. Andrew Dalhouse‘s colors as always are solid and keep with the Pixar feel. Overall the art is what I have come to expect from the BOOM! Kids line and held up well.
I am intrigued enough in all of the cliffhangers that it will keep me reading especially for some more Dash. I also am really interested to see some of Mr. and Mrs. Incredible’s past revealed through two villains and hope this keeps up and is as interesting as it seems thus far. Overall a solid Issue.
I give The Incredibles #8 a 3.5 out of 5.
I give the series so far a 4 out of 5.
