The Walking Dead

Last August it was announced that a new television series was being adapted from Robert Kirkman‘s popular graphic novel The Walking Dead, and now the first eight images from the show, which began production today, are already online.

The story follows a cop and his family as they team up with some other survivors of a devastating zombie infestation, and while it is sure to have all the scares that come with zombies, the show is said to focus on the stories of these people and their survival instead of the BOO! factor, which is why it’s being set up as a series.

The big concern in all of this was whether this graphic horror content could fly on a network like AMC, which is where the six-episode freshman run will air. And while that is still really yet to be seen, the fact that top hit shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad live there and these new images you’re about to see are certain to give you some hope.

Limp as quickly as your undead re-animated corpse will allow you to over to the other side to check out the new images from The Walking Dead!

Most of the images show some pretty gnarly zombie make-up work that promises to be even drippier, ooey-gooey, and bloodier after some post-production effects are introduced. The other two images show some of the make-up and prosthetic work being crafted and a side-by-side comparison with one of the zombie actresses.

Also helping this show to remain an incredibly exciting prospect, is the fact that it’s written, directed, and produced by none other than Frank Darabont. This is the man who has written and directed classic Stephen King adaptations The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, as well as The Mist.

And hey, it appears that they’ve even found a role for The Room‘s Tommy Wiseau! (No offense, Tommy, we all love you)

Here’s the mini-press release intro from AMC and all eight of the images to check out. Enjoy!

Production begins today in Atlanta for AMC’s adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic The Walking Dead. The six-episode first season — written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk) — follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.

To whet your appetite for this tale of the living and the undead, AMC is pleased to present this exclusive first look photo of “The Walkers” — the series’ titular flesh-eating creatures.
