Since fire ravaged and destroyed much of the Universal Studios Hollywood lot, we’ve been covering their progress. One of the more exciting plans was to rebuild the King Kong attraction that debuted in 1986 and was badly damaged in the blaze. Universal brought in the director of 2005’s King Kong, Peter Jackson, and they set out to make an amazing new attraction to their tour.
Since then, we’ve heard much about the new ride, and it’s been about as exciting sounding as anything else you could think of. And while it’s called “360 3-D,” it does have a lot more of a 4D feel to it, considering the movement and interaction involved.
If you’ve been at all interested in checking out the new King Kong attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, well…you’re now in luck. The ride is making its debut TODAY!
Click on over to check out a couple new images, and some making of videos for the the ride.
In the new attraction, guests will don special glasses as they enter a darkened soundstage aboard the Studio Tour trams and will be transported”” via the magic of Surround Digital 3D projection “”deep into the dark heart of the world of Skull Island . They’ll survive a close encounter with a swarm of monstrous bats, only to be confronted by the terrifying presence of Kong himself. Suddenly, an enormous, ravenous 35′ tall dinosaur will challenge Kong and guests will feel their trams jolt, roll and shudder as they find themselves caught in the middle of a ferocious showdown between the great ape and the giant lizard. The action will immerse guests in the battle between the two colossal predators.
Just went on the ride today and was somewhat disappointing. While the computer effects are cool, as a ride it just was somewhat boring. I felt quite disconnected to the whole thing and wish they could have done something similar to the old ride. Basically you drive into this carwash type room… watch the video.. and drive out. i say.. Meh…
