The return of Futurama recently broke some records for Comedy Central pulling in 2.9 million viewers on its first night back (which has now apparently dropped to 2 million — what’s everyone doing, keep watching!). And now the network has another relatively new show taking over the top spot of their studio recorded programs.
Tosh.0 is a simple show mainly consisting of video clips found on the internet, a funny bit here and there, and a weekly “Web Redemption” for some viral video superstar to clear their name. But sometimes simple is best, with numbers showing a new high of 2.4 million viewers for this past Wednesday’s episode. This propels Tosh.0 by not only Stephen Colbert’s The Colbert Report, but even John Stewart and The Daily Show making it the new highest-rated studio show on Comedy Central and placing it third overall behind Futurama and South Park.
The hilarious (and sometimes disgustingly unwatchable) web videos are a big reason for the success of Tosh.0, but it’s host Daniel Tosh himself who has to be a primary reason as well. Without his relentless and nothing’s sacred comic delivery, we wouldn’t be keeled over in horrific pain from laughing so hard for a half hour straight. It’s funny and it helps you lose weight. You can’t go wrong.
Will Tosh.0 stay at the top of the mountain forever? No, it wouldn’t be at all shocking to see The Daily Show jump right back up there. Even so, this is a great achievement, and it allows us an opportunity to tell all of you who aren’t watching to find some episodes and check them out immediately. You can thank or yell at us later.

not really fair to compare ratings of a once a week show to a daily show… no pun intended

Very true.
I don’t think of it as a comparison but more of a shout out to Tosh.0 for a cool little accomplishment.
