Bruce Campbell Wants Sequel To ‘My Name Is Bruce’ To Be ‘The Expendables’ Of Horror

The Movie God   |  @   |

In a recent chit-chat, cult superstar Bruce Campbell touched briefly on a sequel to his movie, My Name is Bruce, which told the story of a small town that mistakes Campbell for his popular Evil Dead trilogy character, Ash, and asks him to help save their town from the evil monsters that terrorize them.

Most of the conversation was about his time working on the Evil Dead movies and the many stories that came from his experiences with director Sam Raimi, as well as whether the long-rumored new sequel would ever get made. As for that, Campbell said they’d all like to make another Evil Dead but no one has the time right now. He joked that Raimi puts out fake statements from time to time to get people excited, but with his blockbuster movie projects piling up and Campbell’s TV show, Burn Notice, it just isn’t happening soon.

When the topic switched to the My Name is Bruce sequel, which will be called Bruce vs. Frankenstein, Campbell made things interesting with an idea he has. His hope is to not only make the sequel, but to make it in the same vein as The Expendables with as many horror stars as humanly possible.

Yeah, “The Expendables,” or more like the “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” of horror. I want to get so many horror movie stars that people can’t possibly not see the movie. I want to give them other stuff to do. I want to have Kane Hodder be very particular about what he eats. I want Robert Englund to be a tough guy, like he knows tae kwon do or something. I want to find out the hidden sides of all these people. Some will play themselves, some will play alternate characters as well. I may approach Kane Hodder to play Frankenstein. He could be Kane Hodder himself fighting himself as Frankenstein. It could be crazy. It’s a silly concocted story that we hope to do maybe in a year or so.

My breaks between “Burn Notice” have been getting tighter because they’ve been adding episodes. They’re trying to trap me like a rat in the TV world, and I might just let them. There’s a script, it just kind of blows right now, so no one’s really seeing it. We gotta work on it. Definitely shoot in Oregon all on a stage. It’s like the “300”³ of horror comedies. We want to make it a whole world. Someone’s gotta take Frank down for good.

This would be a horror fan’s dream come true, but could Campbell succeed where Sylvester Stallone failed? There’s a lot of great horror icons out there, and if they all gathered for one film it would indeed be epic. One thing this plan would have going for it is that a lot of the top names in horror are usually up for anything, and have even joined together before, like in Hatchet for example.

As you read, the script sucks at the moment, but if all goes well I guess we’ll know for sure in about a year!

  4. @Rodney It’s not say The Expendables failed, but there were others Stallone wanted for the movie like Jean Claude Van Damme and he couldn’t get them.

Not even to say it was his fault (it wasn’t), but he did want them all and failed to get them all.

@Devon Combs is absolutely a must.

  5. I love Bruce Campbell. The guy is fucking awesome. But lets get real for a moment. My Name is Bruce was so bad it doesnt need a sequel. It ranks right up there with Alien Apocalypse. If you wanna do a superstar horror flick thats great. But please just make it its own independent entity.

  6. Brad Dourif would have to be in this.
