The Evil Dead was a movie made on a super-low budget by a group of friends in the woods in the late 70s and early 80s. It became a cultural phenomenon spawning two sequels, a remake, an off-Broadway musical, and a 3-season television series on Starz. Now almost 40 years since production started on director Sam Raimi‘s classic film, The Evil Dead will get the luxury treatment in a new 4K Ultra HD combo pack, which arrives right in time for Halloween.
The 1981 film starred Bruce Campbell as loverboy Ash Williams long before he was a wisecracking, shotgun carrying, chainsaw-handed lothario. Along with girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), sister Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), and two friends, Ash and company find a mysterious book in a cabin cellar alongside a tape recorder. Playing it, they accidentally unleash the Evil Dead from the Necronomicon Ex Mortis and literally, all Hell breaks loose.
The movie is gory to the extreme featuring copious amounts of bodily dismemberment, stabbing with pencils, gouged eyes, axe hits, and more. Now thanks to full HD you can enjoy the red gore in the brightest of colors. Considering this was on the original British Video Nasty list, you can only imagine how “colorful” things will get in the highest quality.
The new release will feature commentary tracks from writer-director Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and of course Ash himself, Bruce Campbell. It hits stores on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 and will retail for $22.99.
