The first trailer for the new movie, The Fighter, has shown up online after a lengthy trip through various stages of production. The film was originally set to be directed by Darren Aronofsky before David O. Russell stepped in for the job, and production began well over a year ago in July of last year.
The Fighter stars Mark Wahlberg as boxer and New England legend “Irish” Mickey Ward at a time when he was trying to make a name for himself as a fighter, while at the same time taking fights with boxers expected to demolish him just so he could grab a paycheck. It also follows his brother, Dickie Eckland (played by Christian Bale), who also used to box (once going the distance against the great Sugar Ray Leonard) before a drug problem forced him to retire and move on to become one of Ward’s trainers.
You can head over to the other side to check out the trailer here and now.
David O. Russell previously directed Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees, and The Fighter also stars Amy Adams and Melissa Leo. It is currently set for release on December 10, 2010.
Give away the story? People, this isn’t a mystery or a science fiction spectacular with shadowy creatures…its a biopic about a very popular boxer. If you know anything about the real Ward (which looks nothing like Walberg, Ward was 135 pounds, Mark looks 190-200) the trailer wouldn’t be anything that’s suppose to surprise except the delight to see that Bale actually does act (and looks a lot like Ekland).
I agree that American movies are made for idiots and previews show the entire movies, but the preview for this is just right. Your argument is like saying that the trailer for Gandhi gave too much away because it shows him die, lol. “Damn, I didn’t know that Kennedy was going to die in JFK!”

Okay, seriously?
That trailer gave sooooo much of the story away.
And this isn’t the only trailer I’ve seen lately that practically spells out 90% of the film, except for the finale. What gives?
Are audiences THIS stupid?

Only AMERICAN audiences are stupid because they have ZERO PATIENCE and don’t like anything COMPLEX or anything THAT MAKES THEM THINK (god forbid).
