Released in 1994, Generations is the seventh film in the Star Trek franchise and was an effort to bring together the original members of the Enterprise crew, including James T. Kirk (William Shatner) with the full cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, captained by Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). While not brilliantly executed, the film but it does have a few elements worth watching for like the android Data getting an emotion chip, and the two captains meeting up to battle a new foe (Dr. Soran played by Malcolm McDowell). There’s also something that happens in this movie that has and still does anger fans.
Synopsis: Capt. Picard, with the help of supposedly dead Capt. Kirk, must stop a madman willing to murder on a planetary scale in order to enter a space matrix.
Now that I’ve written about my love for Star Trek a million times, you can imagine my excitement back in 1994 to go see a film starring these two Captains — I mean, just look at the poster art for the movie!!! Like I mentioned, there are elements of this film that are worth seeing and are enjoyable, but I just can’t get beyond that one thing that happens that ruins everything!!! But, for $4, if you’ve never seen Generations, now’s your chance to catch it on the cheap. If anything, at least once you’re done, you’ll have First Contact to look forward to (on sale next Thursday), which is an awesome movie with The Next Generation cast.
Visit the Video on Demand page to learn more about the service (you can stream the film right on your computer, or download it to you PC, and more).
