Since it’s been a couple of weeks since the last major comic book character was threatened with getting killed off, Marvel announced today that the next major storyline for their Ultimate Universe, which will be called Death of Spider-Man.
Starting in February 2011 with Ultimate Spider-Man #153, writer Brian Michael Bendis will join forces with Mark Millar to tell what Bendis calls “a storyline unlike any other” and which Marvels touts “forever changes the Ultimate Comics Universe.” Ultimate Spider-Man #153 serves as a prologue for the storyline which will officially start in Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates #1.
Millar stressed that this new Ultimate story event “is going to be big.”
“This is the biggest, boldest thing we’ve attempted in the ten years since we kicked this line off. This is the one thing that could be bigger than the creation of the Ultimate line and it’s great to be a part of it.
It’s unclear whether Spider-Man will actually be killed off, but obviously something huge is on the horizon for the webslinger, and for the entire Ultimate Universe. This storyline continues in further issues of both Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs New Ultimates.

So, what do you think will happen? Is Marvel gutsy enough to actually kill off Spider-Man even if it is just the Ultimate version of the character? They did prove with Ultimatum that no character was off limits, so we’ll have to see what happens.

Seriously, though.. We hear this every year about every storyline. My doubt is high for this.
