If you’re a Doctor Who fan and the Christmas Special as well as the Doctor Who Proms being aired on BBC America just aren’t enough Time Lord insanity for you, then you’re in luck: the BBC has announced that the fourth and final Doctor Who Adventure Game is to be released online just after A Christmas Carol is screened on UK television.
The best part? The “monsters” in this game are the Vashta Nerada, the swarming shadows that consume flesh. Fans may remember that the Vashta Nerada first appeared in Silence In The Library and Forest of the Dead, the two episodes written by Steven Moffat that introduced the character of River Song. And while those episodes saw David Tennant‘s 10th Doctor attempt to outwit the shadow creatures, in this online game, it will be Matt Smith‘s 11th incarnation of the Doctor who’ll battle the threat, along with companion Amy Pond.
Entitled Shadows of the Vashta Nerada, Steven Moffat is considering the adventure game to be “the season finale” of the game series, and will be set underwater, in an aquatic sea-bed colony called Poseidon.
The new Doctor Who adventure game will be available for both Mac and PC from the BBC’s official Doctor Who website on December 25, 2010. It is available for free to UK residents, while those of us overseas can purchase and download it also on Christmas Day.
