The still-thriving 3D technologies being used in making movies today continue to dominate your local cinemas week-in and week-out. But where you haven’t seen this movie-watching phenomenon show up much yet, is in your own homes.
The purchase and use of 3D-ready television sets is still in its infancy and many have yet to throw down the amount of cash it would take to obtain one. Nevertheless, we do move closer and closer to everyone having a 3D TV in their homes, and we will be seeing many more movies becoming available with the added dimension on Blu-ray at their local retail outlets.
A few of these special Blu-ray 3D products have already been made available to those who do have the ability to watch them by Walt Disney, who always seems to be right on their game. They’ve already put out titles like Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and Robert Zemeckis’s A Christmas Carol in the format, but now many more are on the way for 2011.
Disney has officially announced their slate for Blu-ray 3D movies that will hit store shelves in this brand new year, and you can see what they are below.
The top two titles Disney is releasing is their beloved classics, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, which are being given their 3D conversion by the original artists and filmmakers to ensure top quality. They’ll be joined by two of Disney’s bigger recent theatrical releases in Tron: Legacy and Tangled.
Rounding things out for now are Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force, and Chicken Little. Disney will also be announcing more titles to be released in the near future.
In addition to the 3D movie, a 2D copy of the Blu-ray will also be included much like a DVD copy is often available with Blu-ray purchases. This ensures that people who buy it will not only be restricted to watching it on a 3D-ready TV.
And the movies themselves will not be the only thing in 3D when you purchase these titles. Disney has announced that these releases will feature 3D menus, coming attraction previews, and an introduction to the technology in home entertainment by none other than The Lion King‘s Timon and Pumba.
