Remember the Little Golden Books, the innocuously illustrated children’s book series of nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and ways to learn one’s ABC’s that’s been around since 1942?
Well, Josh Cooley, story artist at Pixar Animation Studios, has been having fun in his free time over the past few years making what he dubs “Inappropriate Golden Book“-style illustrations based on popular films.
Cooley compiled his fun illustrations, which include scenes from Alien, The Godfather, The Big Lebowski, and many more, into one book titled Movies R Fun, currently available through his online shop for $35.
The individual prints from the book, such as the Alien-themed one here at top titled “Chest Burst,” are also sold through the online shop for around $40-$50 each. Note, some of the prints are limited-edition, numbered, and signed by the artist.
Some of my favorites are the two new ones added (that were not in the book) from the recent “Is This Thing On” show at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles for The Jerk and Curb Your Enthusiasm [pri-tay, pri-tay, pri-tay good]. From the book, obviously the “Chest Burst” is a winner; I also like The Terminator “Laundry Day.”
Take a look at the store’s selection and let us know your favorites.
