News has been a little quiet on the Doctor Who front lately, but we do know that production is continuing on the three main shows, Doctor Who, Torchwood: Miracle Day, and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Meanwhile, we came across some cool info on the web that the official TARDIS prop is on display in front of a classic medieval castle in Wales.
In South East Wales, the Doctor’s TARDIS will be on display in front of Raglan Castle during the February half-term (for those of us not in the UK, half-term is a little vacation halfway through the school term — thanks, Terr, for the clarification).
There’s something just too cool about having a TARDIS set in front of a medieval castle that takes me back to some of the classic Doctor Who episodes featuring Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, such as “The Time Warrior” and “The Masque of Mandragora.” “The Stones of Blood” comes to mind, too.
The official announcement for the display states:
The TARDIS will be located in the Fountain Court area of the castle for visitors to admire. Jayne Rowlands, Cadw’s Head of Presentation, said: “It’s fantastic that we are able to welcome the Doctor’s TARDIS to Raglan Castle this half-term, and we expect it will prove a big hit with fans from both the UK and overseas.
Raglan Castle originates from the 12th century, and has a lot of history in it that stems all the way to contemporary pop culture: the site has been used as settings for Led Zeppelin‘s The Song Remain the Same film, and Terry Gilliam‘s Time Bandits.
