Last week, we reported that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich had been cast as Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens in the upcoming HBO film Hemingway and Gellhorn.
Now, Rolling Stone has posted a photo Ulrich as Ivens, along with his fellow castmates Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen on set of the film in San Francisco.
Check out the image here at top; Ulrich is on the far left, complete with beret and director’s camera.
We’re all wondering how Ulrich will fare in a serious film acting against dramatic actors like Kidman and Owen. Yes, he had a bit part in the Russell Brand comedy Get Him To The Greek, but he was playing himself. In Hemingway and Gellhorn, he’ll presumably have to stretch those acting chops quite a bit.
The HBO film will focus on the romance and marriage of Ernest Hemingway (Clive Owen) and Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman), following the couple through and past the Spanish Civil War, an experience that inspired Hemingway’s classic novel For Whom The Bell Tolls. With Metallica, Ulrich co-wrote the 1985 song “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” which was inspired by Hemingway’s novel.
