An actor has been chosen to play one of the villains in the upcoming remake of Total Recall, and that actor looks like it will be Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, who’s currently in negotiations for the role.
The movie is a remake of the 1990 movie of the same name, which is based on the Philip K. Dick story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. It follows a man named Douglas Quaid who takes a vacation of the mind to the planet Mars, but when he suspects his memories have been corrupted in hopes of hiding his own reality he ventures to the planet for real, causing him to uncover some very big secrets and leading him to question what is real and what is all in his mind.
Cranston will play Vilos Cohaagen, who was played in the original film by Ronny Cox. He joins Colin Farrell, who has already been cast in the lead role of Douglas Quaid that was originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Though the original movie took us to Mars, it was decided to offer a very different take on the story in the remake. This one is going to be set right here on Earth with a significant twist to the story to accomplish a unique presentation. According to reports the movie will involve the two great nations of Euromerica and New Shanghai, and it will follow Quaid, a factory worker who begins to think he’s actually a spy…though he has no idea for which nation. Cranston’s character will be the leader of Euromerica who is secretly planning an invasion of New Shanghai.
Total Recall is being directed by Len Wiseman, who previously helmed Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard.

The movie does not need a re-imagining. Arnold’s version is perfect as-is. Hollywood, stop remaking these movies, dammit!
