Believe it or not, yet another Hellraiser movie is making its way to theaters soon. No, not the remake Dimension Films is planning. This is one of those famed Hellraiser sequels that typically go direct-to-DVD (and was supposed to according to reports back in 2010), yet somehow, Hellraiser: Revelations, the ninth film in the series, is getting a limited theatrical run.
The guys over at Bloody Disgusting have the exclusive on the trailer and theatrical one sheet. Click the banner here above to see the full poster; watch the trailer here below.
This new sequel, directed by Victor Garcia, opens its limited run in theaters on September 2, 2011 with a Video On Demand launch on September 1. Then this gem will come to DVD on October 18.
Since Dimension is putting out this cheap-ass sequel basically because they were taking so long on the remake, they faced losing the rights and therefore had to put something out.
The film stars Stephan Smith Collins as the new Pinhead; Steven Brand, Daniel Buran, Jolene Anderson, Nick Eversman, Stephen Smith Collins, and Jay Gillespie also star. While there’s no familiar faces in this sequel (was Craig Sheffer too busy?), fear not, at least the Box is back.
Two friends in Mexico discover the Lament Configuration and unleash Pinhead, but one decides to try to survive by swapping himself with someone else. Once they go missing, family members go in search of them, but find Pinhead instead.
Actually I didn’t mind Revelations, after reading all the negative reviews I didn’t expect much though. The plot worked well enough and pinhead, well, he was THERE, albeit missing his trademark eloquence and voice synthesizer. Passable.
