Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: The First Avenger is coming to DVD, 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo and limited edition 3-Disc Blu-ray 3D on October 25, 2011 and Paramount Studios has just released a trailer for the forthcoming Blu-ray. You can check out the video along with the Blu-ray cover and a full list of specs below at the end of this article.

The trailer features scenes from the film intercut with clips from the many bonus features to be included on the disc – including behind-the-scenes featurettes and deleted scenes. Most interesting of all is the brief look at the feature entitled “The Assembly Begins,” which promises to give viewers their first in-depth look at the making of what is looking to be the movie event of the summer of 2012, The Dark Knight Rises notwithstanding. We get split-second glimpses of the film’s cast in costume and occasionally in action and even writer/director Joss Whedon puts in an appearance. There will also be a bonus short film called “Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer” and featuring Clark Gregg reprising his role from the Iron Man movies and Thor as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson.

I will certainly be picking this release up because Captain America: The First Avenger was one of my favorite movies of the summer. It was a ripping adventure that brought the venerated Marvel Comics legend to the screen with great wit, energy, and surprising reverence for square-jawed heroics in an era given over to movies that were more like cynical, overblown music videos. Between Captain America, Thor, and X-Men: First Class Marvel has had one hell of a summer at the movies. Compare that to DC and Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern, which went through years of development and ate up hundreds of millions in production and marketing costs before arriving at theaters as a stillborn epic bomb that looked like the work of a jackass amateur. Meanwhile, more Superman and Batman movies are in the works, Wonder Woman gets handed off to be blanded down into garbage television at the hands of the antichrist David E. Kelley, and DC and Warner still just don’t get it.

Captain America: The First Avenger will be released on October 25, 2011.
