Man Of Steel just got a little more indie.
Deadline is reporting that relatively unknown actress Ayelet Zurer is taking over for Julia Ormond in the upcoming picture, and will play Lara, the Kryptonian mother to Henry Cavill’s Kal-El, aka Superman.
There’s no word yet as to why Ormond is off the project.
The Israeli actress has starred in a few big films, particularly Angels & Demons and Munich, but to most people, is still relatively unknown.
Personally, while I’m not hugely familiar with the actress’ work outside of the two aforementioned films, I do really think that this is a great little change. I like the idea that director Zack Snyder is going outside of the Hollywood ranks for some of this cast, as he has been known to do occasionally. Toss in the great cast like Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, and Zurer’s on-screen hubby Russell Crowe, and you have a fantastic collection of talent. Oh, and it helps that Chris Nolan is producing.
I would have preferred Julia Ormond. But given her history of playing cheating women, she would’ve had an affair with General Zod or Jor-El’s brother.
