We’ve reached the top of the mountain. Things appear to only be looking down from this point on.
Deadline is reporting that David Ayer has been tapped to scribe a new project, a reboot of Scarface. That’s right, everyone’s favorite coke snorting gangster is heading back to the big screen for the third time.
Originally brought to film in 1932, this new film will apparently put a “contemporary spin” on that tale of a mobster who takes over Chicago (which later turned into Miami for the 1983 Brian de Palma film). This reboot will be similar, finding an immigrant who tries to bust his way into the crime world.
Personally, the idea that this man is perverting the American Dream in some possible way, or at least what he deems to be that ideal, is beyond interesting. However, I don’t quite know if this is a project or a type of project that holds much clout today. Overall, it’s not a remake or a reboot I’m too stoked for, but hey, stranger things have happened, right?
