Yeah, because there really is no better person to help spearhead an adaptation of an Anne Rice novel than one Christopher Columbus.
Joking aside, Variety is reporting that the director’s shingle 1492 Pictures are backing a take on Rice’s Christ The Lord: Out Of Egypt. The film will be helmed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, with a screenplay he penned alongside Betsy Nowrasteh.
Christ The Lord: Out Of Egypt will follow the story of the early years of Christ, “based on the Gospels and on the most respected New Testament scholarship.”
Personally, while I’m not at all a fan of Columbus as a filmmaker, I do definitely think that there is a ton of potential here. If given the right amount of time and the right cast, this sucker could be one hell of a winner. The film world could use an epic like this, as the last great true biblical epic has been some years past. Overall, this has all the potential to be either great, or an absolute failure.

Good, because fiction is the best place for this material.
