The first teaser trailer for Lionsgate’s summer 2012 testosterone-fiesta The Expendables 2 has been released. You can watch the trailer and read the official plot synopsis here below.
The trailer is little more than Bruce Willis‘ menacing Mr. Church (the character he played in the single scene he shared with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original) confronting Stallone’s Barney Ross about a deal they made and how it’s time to pay up, followed by a roll call of the movie’s cast. Eleven actors, and not one neck between them.
I make no bones about how much I love the first Expendables that was unleashed to boffo box office in the U.S. and around the world in August 2010. Even in a summer that belonged to Christopher Nolan’s cerebral heist flick Inception, Stallone, who also directed and co-wrote the original, and his all-star squadron of Hollywood he-men proved that old school action heroes still had a place in the hearts and gonads of modern moviegoers.
The sequel, which is being directed by Simon West (Con Air) from a screenplay by Stallone, looks to amp up the stakes and has already bolstered its ranks for the occasion: Stallone once again leads Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, and Randy Couture into battle with Liam Hemsworth and Yu Nan joining the team for this latest outing. Willis and Schwarzenegger also return for expanded roles as well as new-to-the-cast Chuck Norris, Scott Adkins, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The Expendables 2 opens on August 17, 2012.
Synopsis
The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal…
Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Lee Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother.
That is done the Expendables way….
