If I had to pick one word to describe The Green Hornet #20, it would be-charming. It’s not too often a comic actually makes you feel better after you’ve read it, but this one does just that.

Writer Ande Parks serves up two stories in one issue here. A tale of the original Green Hornet & Kato and one of the modern day Green Hornet & Kato. Both fighting the same villain, but in very different ways.

This issue is filled with sweet character moments and it reminded me a little of one of the issues of Marvel’s X-Men where they all played baseball. Yes, it’s a superhero comic, but this one is more about the characters than the villains or evil plots to take over Century City. For the most part, The Green Hornet has been about legacy, but Parks has gone out of his way to show us the Brit Reid is a man coming into his own, and not just living in his father’s shadow.

Igor Vitorino is coming into his own with this book. He’s improving with every issue and I have to say, the man draws cars and vehicles just as good as he draws human beings. Something that’s not easy to do, I’m told. With as much detail as he puts into each page, I’m very surprised he can turn out such a quality book on a monthly basis. Keep it up, Igor!!

If you’re not reading The Green Hornet, you should be. It’s a great alternative to comics with years of hard-to-follow continuity and a nice change of pace from the standard superhero fare. Give it a try, you won’t be sorry!
