NYCC 2012: Firefly 10th Anniversary panel banner

We found out back in July that the Science Channel would be airing a Firefly TV special on titled Browncoats Unite on November 11, which reunites the cast and crew of Joss Whedon’s cult favorite television series.

In honor of the upcoming one-hour special, the Science Channel held a panel on Saturday at New York Comic-Con to premiere some exclusive clips from Browncoats Unite and Firefly stars Jewel Staite (Kaylee Frye) and Sean Maher (Dr. Simon Tam) were in attendance. When the former cast members, whose characters were on the cusp of a beautiful love affair when the series created by Joss Whedon was unexpectedly cancelled, greeted each other lovingly on stage, then shared a champagne toast to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Nathan Fillion, who played Captain Mal Reynolds on the show, called into the panel, but of course, then came out and surprised everyone. As the audience stood up and screamed with delight, Staite and Maher took turns straddling Fillion – yes, it was a sight to see, check our photos capturing that moment and more from the panel here below.

NYCC 2012: Barry Levinson's The Bay Panel

Barry Levinson, the Oscar-winning director who has been a cinematic jack of all trades for decades in the film industry, spanning genres with films like Diner, Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam, Wag the Dog and the doomed from the start fantasy yarn Toys, dips his director’s cap into the supernatural well with The Bay, which was showcased in a panel on Saturday at the IGN Theater at New York Comic-Con.

The Bay, a seemingly compelling cover-up tale starring Kristen Connolly from Cabin in the Woods, speaks of a small town that buried what really happened when over 700 people perished during a tragedy that occurred years earlier. An investigative reporter tries to unlock the airtight sealing of the cover up, and in 24 hours, tries to unravel the mystery of the quotient with testimonials by people who were there, using eclectic and unorthodox methods as iPhone video recordings, Androids, and webcams to illustrate the events to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

NYCC 2012: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 Panel - Bruce Timm

Attendees at the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 panel at the IGN Theater in the Jacob Javits Convention Center at the New York Comic-Con on Saturday got a sneak peek at the epic animated conclusion to Frank Miller’s story featuring Gotham City’s Caped Crusader.

Moderator Gary Miereanu introduced long-time DC Animated producers: multiple Emmy Award winner, voice and dialogue director Andrea Romano, along with as called by Miereanu, “the architect of superhero animation” Bruce Timm. To the crowd’s delight, intros were immediately followed by a trailer of the upcoming sequel to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1.

Another clip was shown which featured the Joker on a talk show, in which the host was voiced by Conan O’Brien. At first the footage was campy, then turned rather sinister as the Joker manifested his controlled viciousness.
