I’m a recent convert to the Whovian Universe. For years I disregarded it as a viable source of entertainment. Not that I disliked it for any particular reason, I guess I just never gave it a chance. But now, having watched several episodes of different incarnations of the show, I can fully appreciate the fun factor you can find in the Time Lord’s stories. With that, I present to you Doctor Who: Dave Gibbons Collection. Featuring an introduction by Dave Gibbons himself, this book collects all of his works from the very first issue of Doctor Who Weekly, which began featuring tales from the Fourth Doctor, to the tale he wrote about the Fifth Doctor in issue #69 of Doctor Who Monthly. I found myself really getting a feel for some of the earlier portrayals of the Doctor. Using his TARDIS to move (almost) flawlessly from one reality to the next, he finds himself in one pickle after the next but always manages to successfully extract himself and others from whatever problems might arise.

Discuss us on Twitter: #TARDISblend The first half of Doctor Who Series 7 concludes, and it begins with The Doctor (Matt Smith) with companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) having a picnic in Central Park, New York in 2012. While there, Rory is zapped back to 1938 by one of the Weeping Angels. The Doctor and Amy discover that their impending adventure is documented in a book, and they travel back to try and find and rescue Rory, only to discover that the Weeping Angels have established a feeding ground in New York City. Meeting up with River Song (Alex Kingston), the heroes find themselves in a fixed time loop problem, which may have tragic consequences for them all… …or for some of them… During TARDISblend 56, we discuss Steven Moffat‘s final farewell to the Ponds in The Angels Take Manhattan, and examine some of the more wibbly-wobbly aspects of the episode. We also make mention of some of the cooler Angel scenes in the mid-series finale, and look forward to the next episode being the Christmas special.

Not everything you see in a movie trailer or TV spot makes it into the final cut. If you got to see already The Master, you may have noticed that some of the scenes used in the trailer were left out of the film. These omitted scenes did not hurt the film in any way, but it does beg the question, why did director Paul Thomas Anderson leave them on the cutting room floor? While we may never know the answer to this question, The Master is still a thought-provoking look at the human condition and just in case our review did not entice you to watch this incredible film – watching it in 70mm is a must – then the following trailer should seal the deal. Check out the NSFW sizzle reel for Anderson’s The Master below.

| $5 MP3 Album Deal: The Hives ‘Lex Hive’ |

As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for September 2012, The Hives‘ Lex Hives is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of Lex Hives, the CD is available for only $10.91. Released in June 2012, Lex Hives is the fifth studio album by Swedish garage rockers The Hives. Containing boisterous, pogo-worthy sing-alongs such as “Come On” and “Go Right Ahead,” Lex Hives took five years to produce as it was the band’s first self-produced effort. Frontman Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist said in an interview, “Rather than squeeze in some studio time, we could go in to the studio whenever we wanted. It turns out that having five producers who have an equal say of everything isn’t that fast.” And if that riff from “Go Right Ahead” sounds familiar, it’s not your imagination. After The Hives recorded the song, they realized it sounded just like Electric Light Orchestra’s “Don’t Bring Me Down” so they called up Jeff Lynne of ELO, got his blessing and shared the songwriting credit with him on Lex Hives. Browse the main sale page to see all 100 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of September 2012.
