Noel Clarke, actor and director from the UK who previously held a recurring role as Mickey Smith in Doctor Who, has been cast in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel.
At this point, it is not fully clear what Clarke’s role will be or how large it is, but it is known that he will play a family man with a wife and a daughter.
Aside from being known for his Doctor Who appearances, Clarke also is known for writing and acting in the film Kidulthood. He also wrote, directed, and starred in the sequel, Adulthood. Zombie fans might also be interested in checking out Clarke in the amusing Doghouse.
Clarke also joins Benedict Cumberbatch (from Steven Moffat’s Sherlock, who’s casting was recently announced), Peter Weller and Alice Eve in recent castings for Star Trek 2.
Personally, I’m happy to hear Clarke is getting some attention from this side of the pond as far as acting and movies are concerned… though I am a little worried that while he was sometimes the “disposable tin dog” in Doctor Who, he may just also become just as expendable as a red shirt in the new movie. At this point it’s anyone’s guess!
Also, while he is looking at Doctor Who actors: Hey, J.J., how about giving a role to Captain Jack Harkness aka John Barrowman?
Star Trek 2 is being directed by Abrams, and written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof. It’s believed the movie will be released in May 2013.
