I’ve made it clear in the past that in recent months Community has become one of my absolute favorite television comedies of all time. So as I and millions of fans of the show around the world anxiously await its still-undated return it’s time that we take stock of Community‘s limitless supply of awesomeness and how it can be applied to other geek-related properties.
We’ve seen the Community‘s cast of characters depicted in fan artwork as Batman villains and the Avengers. Now artist Aviv Or has outdone them all with his vision of Greendale Community College’s finest study group as Marvel Comics’ uncanny team of super-powered mutants, the X-Men.
You can check out a full gallery of Or’s artwork here below.
The line-up, in no short order, is as follows: unofficial group leader Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) as X-leader Cyclops; feminist firebrand Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs) as Jean Grey/Marvel Girl/Phoenix; pop culture obsessive and restless intellect Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi) as Professor X; sweet-natured jock and emerging geek Troy Barnes (Donald Glover) as Wolverine; eager-to-please Annie Edison (Allison Brie) as either Rogue or Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat (nice touch having Troy and Abed’s pet monkey Annie’s Boobs perched on her shoulder); fiercely religious but all-around nice Shirley Bennett (Yvette Nicole Brown) as Storm; senile, innately racist sanitary wipes magnate Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase) as reigning X-nemesis Magneto; spacey Spanish teacher-turned-campus security guard Chang (Ken Jeong) as Nightcrawler; and Greendale’s put upon Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) as the White Queen (before you ask, it’s probably his sister’s costume).
I hope Aviv Or does more Community/X-Men art because he can really build on this premise. How about Star-Burns as Sabertooth? Leonard as Juggernaut? Professor Duncan as Mastermind? Vice Dean Laybourne as Apocalypse?
