TV just can’t get the beloved tale of a Beauty and a Beast out of its systems.

THR is reporting that ABC has ordered a pilot of a new show entitled, well, Beauty And The Beast, from writer Jonathan E. Steinberg and producers Gary Fleder and Mary Beth Basile. This show will join the CW’s update of the cult 1980s CBS series which starred Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton.

ABC’s version is described as a “re-imagining of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical, dangerous world where a beautiful and tough princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.”

Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of the network, this is definitely something that seems to fit that station rather well. It’s a female-focused network (or at least it leans that way), and this will definitely hit that demographic like a sack of tear-soaked tissues. Given a solid cast, who knows? This thing could be at least watchable. Crazier things have indeed happened.
