The other day we reported that Robert Rodriguez was working on a sequel to his 2010 action splatterfest Machete called Machete Kills that would reunite the director with his longtime collaborator and Machete leading man Danny Trejo, and that he was planning to begin filming pretty soon.
Today we are bring you your first look at a promotional poster for Machete Kills that will premiere at the European Film Market this week.
You can check it out here below.
The poster is little more than a very pissed-looking Trejo ready to unleash some righteous fury on some fucked bad guys, which is all that is needed to guarantee my happy ass in a seat come opening day. Usually sales posters are put together in very little time with a modicum of available elements and the intention of helping a film attract potential investors. The first Machete, which Rodriguez (who co-directed with Ethan Manquis) expanded from a tongue-in-cheek trailer than ran before his Planet Terror half of Grindhouse, grossed $44 million worldwide from a budget of $10.5 million so a sequel that promises even more outrageous action and blood-letting than the original should be an easy sell for a movie buff with a gigantic bankroll.
Machete Kills is expected to begin filming in April. Knowing how fast Rodriguez likes to work the finished film should hit theaters the following week.
