4K Review: Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell

3 From Hell
4K | Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Rob Zombie
Cast: Sheri Moon Zombie, Bill Moseley, Dee Wallace, Danny Trejo, Sid Haig, Richard Brake
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: October 15, 2019
Rob Zombie’s films are hotly debated and highly controversial. The rock star turned director broke onto the scene with his 2003’s House of 1,000 Corpses, a messy gore fest in the vain of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The film introduced the world to the maniacal Firefly Family and its three antagonists: Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie), and Otis Driftwood (Bill Moseley). Two years later, Zombie worked out the kinks and created a grindhouse masterpiece, The Devil’s Rejects. Rejects was an epic of dirt and violence and had one of the best endings ever; one that seemingly negated any chance of a sequel. In the decade and a half since, Zombie reimagined the Halloween franchise and made several films sharing his trademarked hellbilly style. But alas the Firefly family has returned, as Zombie completes his trilogy with 3 From Hell. After a limited theatrical run, the film made a return to theaters last week for one day only and is now available on 4k Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack.

Dead Again in Tombstone
Blu-ray | DVD | Digital
Directed by Roel Reine
Starring Danny Trejo, Jake Busey, Elysia Rotaru, Dean McDermott, Elizabeth Lavender, Elysia Rotaru
Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Release date: September 12, 2017
Dead Again in Tombstone is the sequel to the 2013 straight to video/on demand film Dead in Tombstone. In the original, Guerrero (Danny Trejo) and his half-brother Red (Anthony Michael Hall) lead a gang into a small mining town to take its gold. When the gang turns on Guerrero and leaves him for dead, he makes a deal with the Devil himself: a scenery-chewing Mickey Rourke. He gives Guerrero one day to deliver to him the souls of those who betrayed him or suffer eternal damnation. So in other words, your ordinary run of the mill satanic horror western. Considering its low budget and the oft-true stereotypes concerning straight-to-video releases, the cast made this a fun way to burn 100 minutes. Director Roel Reine (Inhumans) and star Danny Trejo return for the sequel, which was released this week.

SDCC 2017: ‘The Flash’ Trailer and Casting News!

More news rolls in from San Diego Comic Con, this time about everyone’s favorite speedster, Barry Allen and CW’s The Flash. Perhaps the most consistently entertaining and engrossing of the DC(TV)EU, The Flash ended its third season with Barry (Grant Gustin) saving Iris (Candice Patton) from death at the hands of Savitar. Unfortunately, as often happens with Flash’s super speed, space and time were disturbed causing Barry to surrender himself to the Speed Force. Fear not, though as The Flash returns this October for season 4 and according to SDCC 2017, he’ll have new villains and actors to deal with.
More below.

Disney In Depth: Movie Review: Muppets Most Wanted
|

Muppets Most Wanted
Directed by James Bobin
Starring Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, Tina Fey, Steve Whitmire, and Eric Jacobson
Walt Disney Pictures
Released March 21, 2014
The Muppets are back on the big screen, but does this “sequel” live up to the 2011 film that essentially ignited interest once again in the brand? While Muppets Most Wanted lacks the drama and overwhelming nostalgia of its predecessor, it more than makes up for that in laughs and smiles a plenty. The movie is insanely funny and astute, far from a film that you would want to imprison audiences from seeing.
While initial box office results are more disappointing and middling than encouraging – its opening weekend here in the United States totaled to a mere $17 million – I cannot think of any reason why moviegoers should avoid this genius blend of satire and parody in great Muppet form. It was evident in its marketing, and it translates to the actual film.
