Benderspink will be teaming with Wizard Magazine founder Gareb Shamus to option Jimmy Palmiotti and Phil Noto‘s futuristic western The New West.
Palmiotti and Noto’s 2-issue story, that was published under Wizard‘s Black Bull Entertainment, took place during the not to distant future after an electromagnetic pulse was set off in Los Angeles, forcing a man to fight his way to save a kidnapped government official while only being armed with a horse and a sword. Which, if you ask me, is total unadulterated awesomeness.
Personally, I have not read The New West, but I have read a lot of western tales from Palmiotti, and if there’s one person I trust that can bridge the future/present and the Old West, then it’s him. He’s incredibly gifted, especially in that arena of storytelling, so I’m positive that this comic is something that I would enjoy. And considering the story laid out in this comic, it seems like it’s one that is dying to be optioned as a film. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet as Shamus and Benderspink’s Chris Bender, JC Spink, and Jake Weiner are just now trying to find takers. Hopefully though, the property will be snatched up quickly and production can happen as soon as possible. Because I would love to see it.
