With less than two weeks to go before it premieres, it’s now do-or-die time for Disney’s mega-budget blockbuster franchise hopeful John Carter. The studio has released a final trailer for the film that is vastly more action-packed and plot-driven than previous trailers have been.
You can watch the trailer here below.
Not much more can be said about the movie at this point. John Carter‘s future at the box office is an uncertain one indeed. Early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, but Disney’s marketing campaign has been lackluster given the sizable investment they have tied up in Andrew Stanton‘s film and the tracking for John Carter hasn’t been good.
Stranger things have happened: Back in 2003 Hollywood was convinced that there was no longer any money to be made off of pirate movies, and then Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl came along. In 1977, 20th Century Fox was so convinced that George Lucas’ Star Wars was going to bomb that they considered throwing out the live-action footage and recycling the special effects for their television division.
There’s still time. John Carter may not be a big opener as the studio is hoping but it could still become a huge hit through positive word-of-mouth. I’m definitely going to see it. How about you?
John Carter opens on March 9, 2012.
