Vertigo Comics announced on Tuesday that Scott Snyder would be bringing fan favorite Dustin Nguyen on art duties for the brand new American Vampire miniseries, Lord of Nightmares.
American Vampire is quite simply a beast. Telling the tales of well, American vampires. This series has helped the effort to redefine the idea of the vampire in modern popular culture and in comics, specifically. It’s brutal; it’s violent; it’s scary. But most importantly, it’s good.

One of the reasons that this comic is so good is the artwork. The artwork in the main series from Raphael Albuquerque has been nothing short of stunning, as was the case with last year’s Survival of the Fittest miniseries that featured art from the amazing Sean Murphy. So with the announcement of a brand new miniseries, it’s only logical to think that the artist would be an amazing one. And it is. It’s Dustin Nguyen. Nguyen has a gorgeous art style that has been featured on many books like Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batman: Streets of Gotham, Wildcats v.3.0, and many many more and it’s always stunning, so I can say without a shadow of a doubt that American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares will be a beautiful book.
The new series will continue in the vein of Survival of the Fittest in that it will take a character from the main series and tell more of the history and details behind certain events. This series will focus on the hunting agency called The Vassals of the Morning Star, but instead of me telling the details, why don’t we look at Scott Snyder’s quote from Vertigo’s site? That’s cool, right? Right on!
These miniseries are the place where we get to reveal the biggest secrets about the mythology, history, and the evolution of our vampires. I’m excited to return to some of my favorite characters, Felicia, Gus, Hobbes, all of whom have lived their lives fighting a war against vampires who live in the shadows. It’s a world where we get to tell their stories in a way where we explore their dreams and their demons and pit them against the biggest scariest vampires you’ll ever see in series with tons of blockbuster action.
Sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it? I’m certainly picking this up, aren’t you?
