Following the release of the first teaser trailer for Series 7 of Doctor Who, the BBC has issued an official photo of the new character who will become Matt Smith‘s companion in the second half of the new season. Currently unnamed, the new companion will be played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. You can see the official press picture at the bottom of this post.
Coleman will have her debut in episode 6 of Doctor Who Series 7, which will be the 2012 Christmas Special for the season. Her entrance as the new companion will follow a “heartbreaking” departure of current assistants, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill).
Series 7 will debut in Fall 2012, with 5 episodes including Amy and Rory. The Christmas Special follows, introducing Coleman as the new companion, and will conclude with the remaining 8 episodes in Spring 2013. Presumably, Series 8 is rumored to follow straight after this to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.
