Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don’t always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we’ve resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.
Today: get your hands on Sting from Lord Of The Ring, a star-studded video for Book People Unite, The Hit Squad pixel art movie, The Simpsons diss Fox News, and a Caligula – Joffrey comparison, plus some Bits Of Doom.
Lord Of The Rings – Sting
Have an extra 8 grand laying around? Now’s your change to get an authentic collectible from Lord Of The Rings straight from WETA, like Sting – The Fine Art Limited Edition. Oh, the price too high? There’s the Sting – Movie Version for a mere $5,500. (It’s time like these I really wish WETA had an affiliate program.)
Still too much? Then you have to leave WETA behind and get the Replica for $145. No? How about 7 bucks, you got 7 bucks? Fine, then get the damn plastic Sting Sword Halloween Costume Accessory, what can I tell you.
Book People Unite Video
The people at RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) would love it if more people read, especially children, so to help make that happen, they’ve launched Book People Unite and have created a star-studded music video to help promote the cause. The video stars famous characters like Raggedy Ann and Andy and Pinocchio, as well as Star Trek and Reading Rainbow‘s Levar Burton. The music is by The Roots, with additional vocals from people like Jack Black, Chris Martin, John Legend, and more. [via Quirk Books FB]
The Simpsons Congratulate Fox… But Not Fox News
On Sunday, April 22, 2012, Fox celebrated their 25 year anniversary with a re-airing of the very first episode of their long-running animated television series The Simpsons. For the episode, The Simpsons added a congratulatory message with love for network, excluding its Fox News branch. [Source: Reddit via Towleroad, Buzzfeed]
The Hit Squad – Pixel Art Movie
Writer/director Chris Blundell is making world’s first movie made using pixel art called The Hit Squad. According to Blundell, its an animated comedy about a washed up 80’s band trying to get one more hit and the movie uses pixel art as the basis of everything. Donate to help get the film funded.
A Caligula – Joffrey Comparison
A Redditor noticed that Caligula in his youth looks like the young King Joffrey from Game Of Thrones.
