Marvel Studios Rumored To Be Working On A ‘Black Panther’ Movie

Black Panther

Marvel Studios has scheduled most of their films for the next two years. Iron Man 3 will open in theaters in May 2013 and Thor 2 is scheduled for a November 2013 release. Surprisingly, Marvel had scheduled the sequel to Captain America for a April 2014 release. All this leaves is the Marvel Mystery Movie that is opening May 2014. Though it was unlikely that it would have been Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man movie, many thought that the Guardians of the Galaxy would be scheduled for a May 2014 release.

Nothing is confirmed as of yet, but Latino Review has reported that the prince of Wakanda, T’Challa, better known as The Black Panther, will have his own Marvel movie that is slated for an eventual release in the next few years.

This would seem to make sense to add Black Panther now since we saw S.H.I.E.L.D. pinpoint Wakanda on a map in Iron Man 2, and Vibranium – the material that was used to form Captain America’s shield – comes from Wakanda. Latino Review says that the movie will be targeting urban audiences and that the script that Mark Bailey penned for the film is amazing.

I am not entirely familiar with the character, but here is Black Panther’s profile from Wikipedia:

The title “Black Panther” is a rank of office, chieftain of the Wakandan Panther Clan. As chieftain, the Panther is entitled to eat a special heart-shaped herb, as well as his mystical connection with the Wakandan Panther god, that grants him superhumanly acute senses and increases his strength, speed, stamina, and agility to the peak of human development. He has since lost this connection and forged a new one with another unknown Panther deity, granting him augmented physical attributes as well as a resistance to magic.

His senses are so powerful that he can pick up a prey’s scent and memorize tens of thousands of individual ones. T’Challa is a rigorously trained gymnast and acrobat, showing mastery in various African martial arts as well as contemporary ones and fighting styles that belong to no known disciplines.

I would love to see John Boyega from Attack the Block appear as the Black Panther. That movie alone should be enough of a reason for him to take the role. And even though Boyega isn’t a mainstream actor, Chris Hemsowrth was able to encapsulate Thor easily, so why not Boyega? So while I cross my fingers, who would you like to see take the role of the Black Panther?

  1. Idris Elba would be a great choice.  He can play badass and intellectual at the same time.
