This year’s San Diego Comic-Con convention is still a couple of weeks off, but already geeks who will be in attendance have something special to look forward to.
For the first time ever, Firefly will be making its way to Comic-Con 2012.
Don’t get too excited, however—it’s not to announce the show’s return or anything along those lines. The panel is to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the fan-favorite sci-fi western, which was canceled far too soon an immensely fast-moving decade ago. It will be held on Friday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m. in Ballroom 20.
Leading the panel is, of course, geek gods Joss Whedon, the show’s creator who recently hit one out of the park with a little movie called The Avengers (you know, the one that just became the third highest-grossing movie of all time), and star Nathan Fillion, who’s keeping busy on the hit ABC show Castle (until someone’s smart enough to finally wake up and resurrect Firefly, obviously).
Joining them is writer Tim Minear and more of the Firefly-class ship named Serenity’s crew, including Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, and Michael Fairman (the villainous Adelai Niska). No word on whether Ron Glass and the lovely ladies of Firefly, Summer Glau, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, and Morena Baccarin will be in attendance yet.
The panel is being put on by Science Channel, which, if you’ll recall, acquired the rights to air re-runs of the show recently. The anniversary reunion will be part of a one-hour panel that also includes the host of the channel’s Dark Matters, John Noble, (who also stars in Fringe, which Science Channel will also be airing re-runs of come November), and a brand new show titled Stuff You Should Know.
Science Channel also promises unseen footage and “numerous buzz-worthy surprises,” whatever that might mean.
To be festive, what is YOUR favorite Firefly episode, and single moment from the show or movie Serenity?
