Geek Discussion: Who Do YOU Want To See Direct & Star In The Next Batman Movie?

The Movie God   |  @   |

Batman Banner Image

Now that The Dark Knight Rises has officially been released to the masses and director Christopher Nolan is officially moving on to other projects, it’s about that time when we the fans start wondering who the new faces of the Batman franchise will be.

Warner Brothers has already said that they plan to reboot the franchise in the future, which is to be expected—it’d be silly business if they didn’t—but the question is just when they will make their move. It could be a couple years, it could be a decade for all we know. But there will come a time when Batman returns (*giggle*) to movie screens.

Until that day arrives, we can only sit and wonder where the franchise is heading next, and, more importantly, who will be given the monumental task of following up Nolan and star Christian Bale. That’s where you fine folks come into play!

With Tim Burton’s Batman, we got that wild and crazy over-the-top comic book style (we’ll leave it at his two; there’s not need to mention the pair that followed). With Nolan’s Batman, we got a much more gritty and realistic presentation. The next director to take the wheel of the franchise will need to figure out a fresh and unique way to present the characters and their stories. Will they return to Burton’s style or try and build on what Nolan has done? Maybe they’ll instead look to a specific comic book storyline for inspiration.

But no matter which direction they decide to go, it will all really hinge on who they choose to direct it, and who will star as Bruce Wayne/Batman and other notable characters.

So many things could go in so many different directions (Here’s our own BAADASSSSS’s thoughts on where the franchise could go), and some of those directions could be swayed by this wondrous thing called the internet. Which is the point of this whole thing. We want to know what you the millions and millions of Batman fans out there want to see happen.

If you were a big wig producer type and you controlled the future of Batman, who would you bring in to direct the next movie, and what direction do you want to see them take the franchise? What characters/villains do you want to see used, and who would you cast in the lead and supporting roles?

Speak it!

  1. I believe that there are two reasons to remake a movie- the first was just bad or new technology can improve the movie experience (not the crap Lucas did to Star Wars ((douchebag)).
That said, Nolan/Bale did Bruce Wayne exceptionally well.  The next series should pick up with Terry McGinnis.  I had hopes JGL was McGinnis before I saw TDKR and I would cast Clint Eastwood as Bruce Wayne.  Who else?!  :)

  2. before they reboot it I would like to see Nolan do one more with Bale. BATMAN BEYOND for the younger generation.. Say for example, they start with 20 years later and Bruce is old and can’t fight anymore because he got hurt in the explosion. He mentors a young apprentice to become the new Batman.. Just a thought because a lot of kids love the batman beyond series.. and it makes sense because in batman beyond there is new technology..

  3. A David Fincher directed Batman film would be worth it if only to have it scored by Trent Reznor.

Fincher’s take on the Long Halloween could work if he gave it a similar tone and structure to Se7en (perhaps not quite as graphic as it would assuredly require a PG-13); methodical, brooding, and dripping with atmosphere all the while showcasing the twisted rogues gallery of Batman mythos.

Also feel that both Danny Boyle and Darren Aronofsky could pull off great incarnations of the Bat.

I’d feel comfortable with any of the three at the helm…

  4. I think Daniel Craig would make a damn good Batman, he’s got the look, the physicality, and the acting ability to handle the role with great aplomb.

  5. I don’t care who directs as long as the title is “Batman Enough Already.” How many sequels and prequels to the same story must I endure?

  8. i’d love to see Guillermo Del Toro direct an adaptation of Grant Morrison’s Arkham Asylum graphic novel written by Damon Lindelof and starring Guy Pearce as Batman, Bryan Cranston as Commissioner Gordon, Benicio Del Toro as the Joker (his performance as Jackie Boy in Sin City was VERY joker-like in my opinion) Michael Fassbender as Harvey Dent/Two Face, Ron Pearlman as Killer Croc, Jackie Earle Hayley as the Mad Hatter, Jason Mamoa (from game of thrones and the conan reboot) as Maxie Zeus, Olivia Wilde as Dr Ruth Adams, and Ed Norton as Dr Charles Cavendish.

  9. Guillermo del Toro would be great as the director. He could give it that nice dark feel Batman has always had.
    Bruce Wayne/Batman: Jon Hamm
    Alfred: Bill Nighy
    Lucius Fox: Danny Glover
    Penguin: Philip Seymour Hoffman
    Joker: Crispin Glover
    Riddler: Neil Patrick Harris
In terms of how I think the movie should go, I’m hoping they just skip his origin and tell it through flash backs. I don’t want to listen to it again because it’s just too long. But in my honest opinion Penguin should be the first villain on account of it will be easy to also incorporate Bruce Wayne into the story alot more because Penguin has a grudge against both Bruce and Batman.
