The Daredevil clock on Fox’s wall is ticking away and with each passing second the rights to the property are getting closer to reverting back to Marvel Studios. With the October 10th deadline looming closer, Fox is in a position where they might lose the film rights to Daredevil. Even Joe Carnahan, whom Fox hopes to direct the reboot, is beginning to lose hope that he will get to direct the Man without Fear.
Here’s what the director tweeted that could indicate that he may not be directing the Daredevil movie:
Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.
It appears that the deal fell fall through, which may put Fox back to scrambling mode and in search for a new Daredevil director. Carnahan did say it was idea that didn’t work out, not that he was off the project completely, but a follow up tweet leads us to believe that glimmer of hope is getting dimmer and with each passing second.
We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone’s side.
While Carnahan has been on Fox’s list for quite some time, there was a report that Fox was willing to hand over the Silver Surfer and Galactus in order to keep Daredevil. Reports later were that Fox do not want to let go of the two characters – who are vital to the Fantastic Four storyline – and were willing to let the Daredevil deal expire just to keep a hold of the two characters.
Carnahan’s last few tweets suggest that things are heading south very fast and that it is unlikely that he will get a chance to direct Daredevil, which may force Fox to have to part ways with the property if they cannot find a director to helm the pic. So even if the Daredevil rights does revert back to Marvel Studios, Fox will continue to hold the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. So in reality, it’s not that big of a loss, but I’m sure Fox is doing all it can to prevent that from happening.
So is it the end for a Daredevil film to fly under the Fox banner?
