Raiders of the Lost Ark

It’s rare to see a classic film get re-released in major theater chains. But many studios are now commemorating the anniversary of the successful titles in their library by polishing the sound and picture quality and giving them a short theatrical release. Now with the upcoming release of the original three Indiana Jones movies on Blu-Ray this September, Paramount will be releasing Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX theaters from September 7 to the 13.

ScreenCrush was the first to discover the news of the film’s re-release in IMAX, but Paramount refused to comment on the subject. Still, ticketing sites like Fandango are already posting the film on their schedules for IMAX screens everywhere. Yes this includes the traditional 70mm IMAX screen as well as those fake ones as well. Considering that the film was never shot with 70mm cameras in the first place, this shouldn’t bother the IMAX purists.

As for the Blu-ray, the Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures Blu-ray set will hit store shelves September 18th. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg was heavily involved in the restoration process for the Blu-ray.

And if you’re like me and are very jealous of the people over at Austin, the Alamo Draft House will be hosting a very special presentation of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in early September.

They say bigger is better, so does this mean that will you watch Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX?

  1. I’d watch it on Imax if it’s here in Baltimore area. One of my ATF movies.
