It’s been difficult to get a film adaptation of Drake’s Fortune into production, and with Neil Burger taking himself out to direct the project, fans of the video game will have to wait a lot longer before they can see Drake seek a lost treasure. But Sony is hiring two writers who are familiar with the themes of Drake’s Fortune, which may help steer the adaptation into the right direction.
Variety reports that National Treasure scribes Marianne and Cormac Wibberley have been hired to write the script for the film. The recent hiring is a smart move as the two have had plenty of experience writing about riddles, puzzles, and ancient hidden treasures.
The Wibberleys may have written the scripts for both National Treasure movies, the family friendly tone it had may dull the edginess that Uncharted has. The game is a little bit darker than the writing material that the two are known for.
We’ll see if the Wibberleys have what it takes to create an edgy story as seen in Uncharted, while still making fun and enjoyable for everyone of all ages to watch. And I am still holding on hope that Nathan Fillon will be offered the role of Drake.
Do you think the hiring of The Wibberleys was a smart move? Who do you think should direct the film now that Burger is out of the running?

If this movie ends up as good as the first Tomb Raider movie, I’m a happy man!! And I enjoyed the National Treasure movies, so I’m still hopefull!
