$5 MP3 Album Deal: Vangelis ‘Opera Sauvage’
space
Mr. BabyMan   |  @   |

This month, the Vangelis album Opéra Sauvage is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format.

Greek musician Evangelos Papathanassiou made a name for himself as a pioneer in electronic music before there was even a name for it, under his stage name Vangelis. But most film fans know him as the composer of scores for Chariots of Fire, Blade Runner, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and Alexander. 1979’s Opéra Sauvage is itself a film score for a French nature documentary, and Vangelis’ swirling improvisational synths simultaneously evoke the majesty and tranquility of the natural world.

If “L’Enfant”‘s 7/4 time signature sounds familiar, it was the inspiration for the iconic Chariots of Fire theme he would later compose. The bluesy, 12 1/2-minute “Rêve” sounds like something sexy astronauts would get their swerve on to. And “Hymne”‘s regal insistence demands you bow down in fealty to it. In short, Opéra Sauvage, like most of Vangelis’ work, masterfully blends a classical sensibility with effortless electronic execution.

Remembering The Great Comedian Groucho Marx On The 35th Anniversary Of His Death

Stoogeypedia   |

Groucho Marx

The great, irrepressible, unforgettable, and wonderfully unique witmaster comedian of possibly all time, one Groucho Marx, died 35 years ago today.

With his brothers, Groucho made up one of filmdom’s all-time great movie comedy squads. During the early first half of the 20th century, they blazed across the screens with an unbashed reckless radicalism, one part slapstick, one part dazzling wit, one part funny memorable set pieces, and all parts absolutely hysterical. While his brother Chico made up the lothario slick oil salesman, with his gift of musical gab via the piano and his way with his sneakiness by way of an Italian accent with the lid not on too tight, and his other brother Harpo, made up the character of the mute rubber limbed, gymnastically comedic genius, who spoke comedic volumes by NOT speaking, it was still Groucho’s amazing knack for rattling off some of the most memorable barbs, rhubarbs, silver-tongued comebacks and observations, only equaled arguably by another great comedian of all-time, Jack Benny.
