It’s not entirely uncommon to hear of swirling casting rumors before a film heads into production. But when a casting rumor is this big, one can’t help but share the exciting possibility of a great actor joining a great movie.
According to sources, Christoph Waltz is in talks to star in The Muppets 2 as an Interpol inspector. Other roles for the Europe-set caper comedy include a “Russian femme fatale and a male lead whose intentions are always in question.” There will also be a slew of cameo roles that need to be filled as well.
It’s unknown if Jason Segel will be a part of those cameos since he has said himself that he wouldn’t be a part of the sequel in any way. However his character’s Muppet brother, Walter, will return.
While it has been known that the sequel will be a caper comedy, this is the first time we’ve heard that the film is set in Europe, although it makes sense that it is since Interpol will be involved. James Bobin, who directed the 2011 holiday hit, returns to direct The Muppets 2 and will use a screenplay he co-wrote with The Muppets screenwriter Nicholas Stoller. Also returning as producers are David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman.
Waltz is undoubtedly a very talented actor who has been in a number of different films, and if he is already in talks to star in the sequel, it says a lot about the script that Bobin and Stoller have penned. He is perhaps best known for his performance as Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. He reunites with the acclaimed director for Django Unchained later this year.
So what do you think about Waltz possibly joining the cast of The Muppets 2?
