One-time advanced screenings can prove to be a huge benefit for some films as it will help drive up interest and possibly box office gross when the film actually hits theaters. Fox is hoping that will work this week.
The studio is giving everyone the chance to see Alita: Battle Angel in limited theaters in the United States and Canada for free tomorrow, January 31st. Find out how to get these tickets below.
Producer James Cameron took to social media, which is a rare feat in itself, to help promote the event. The video can be seen below. There he announced that everyone can head over to ExperienceAlita.com to get their free tickets.
Keep in mind that only 35 theaters are participating in this campaign. So if your zip code is not anywhere near a major city, you might be out of luck. Still, those who do not get the chance to see it will just have to wait a little bit longer as Alita will open in theaters in just a few short weeks.
And this isn’t be the first time that an advanced screening, such as this one, is being held. We saw similar campaigns for Crazy Rich Asians, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bumblebee, and Aquaman. Most recently, Warner Bros. gave out free screenings to The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. So a wide-range of films can get this experiment, and most go on to become hits.
The only thing is, Alita doesn’t have nearly as much of a following as some of the other films. It has been a long-gestating passion project of Cameron’s, who was attached to direct for quite some time. That is until he handed that responsibility over to Robert Rodriguez while he focuses on the Avatar sequels.
Alita: Battle Angel stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, and Keean Johnson.
Here’s the synopsis:
Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past.
Alita: Battle Angel opens in theaters on February 14, 2019. Click right here for more on the film, including trailers.
