In October of 2011, it was revealed that Eddie Murphy wanted to see a TV show based on his hit movie franchise Beverly Hills Cop that focused on the son of his character, Axel Foley.
Fast forward to today, and the show is moving forward, set up at CBS with a pilot episode set to be made and the possibility of a full season order growing greater each day. The likelihood of the show getting a full season has now increased thanks to the announcement of a star, Brandon T. Jackson.
Jackson will play Axel Foley’s son, a blue collar cop who deals mostly with the crimes of the rich and the famous in Beverly Hills, while also trying to escape the shadow of his father. Murphy will be returning to play Axel in the pilot episode at least, and could show up from time to time if the show gets picked up for a full season or more.
Jackson is best known as Alpa Chino in the comedy Tropic Thunder, and has also starred in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (as well as the upcoming sequel, Sea of Monsters) and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son.
No word yet if Judge Reinhold will appear, but it’s assumed we all hope he will.
