The Scorpions

One of the most globally popular hard rock bands of the 1980s, The Scorpions, have reneged on their plans to disband and retire from making music, and have vowed to carry on and continue to stay together as a musical unit.

Lead singer Klaus Meine, who lent his distinctive vocals to well-loved and remembered Scorpion tracks like “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “The Zoo” and the power ballad “Still Loving You,” confirmed this news to Classic Rock Magazine. In short, he slightly backpedaled on the band’s decision to call it quits last year by stressing that, “It’s one thing to say, “˜this is going to be the end of the Scorpions’, but it’s another thing to do it.”

Meine also mentioned that the success of the band’s 2010 release Sting in the Tail was a huge catalyst for the band making its decision to keep going as “a whole new generation of fans joined the party,” and like the best parties, “it’s sometimes hard to find the door (to make an exit).”

With the band back in full force, plans for a new album, an anthology basically which will consist of outtakes never before released which were recorded during the band’s dazzling wave of success during their multiplatinum days in the 1980s, their Tattoo You in essence, (a 1981 Rolling Stones album which also contained unreleased and shelved tracks during that bands 1970s era). Following a tour, which Meine said was so loaded with dates that it was a “crazy schedule,” the band would pick up again in the studio and deliver a record full of new material and even putting the finishing touches on a forthcoming documentary about the group, which will be highlighted by the big finale from a recent tour when it appeared it was the band’s last at the time, which was “very emotional.”

“At this point,” Meine said, “nothing is out of the question.” But, he cautioned fans by summing up, “We’ll just have to see what’s realistic.”

In any event, this is great news indeed for fans of The Scorpions. Stay tuned for further developments.
